We at IPSR, a leading Training Partner of Red Hat in India are very thrilled to know the announcement of Red Hat Inc the world’s leading provider of Open Source Solutions has deployed Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform for BMW Group – the world’s leading premium manufacturer for motorcycles and cars to support their delivery of business applications and services, which was done at the Red Hat Summit on 03 May 2017.
The Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform helps BMW to speed up their application development, gives them more time for marketing, flexibility to scale services on demand and enable innovation.
BMW Cars are delivered with BMW ConnectedDrive which is the company’s digital product that connects the driver and the vehicle with different services and apps. This also provides the driver with information related to the vehicle, assistance, entertainment and even access to the vehicle remotely. BMW currently has more than 1,000 web-based apps hosted which show the growing demand for discoverable and easy to use application hubs. Traditional enterprise architectures would struggle to handle such dynamic needs of modern workloads.
The Red Hat Platform Container contains cloud solutions from Linux Containers, Kubernetes, Project Atomic and OpenShift Origin with the backbone being Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This container platform provides secure and stable deployment without disrupting the current IT investments and allowing traditional applications to parallelly run with the new cloud and container based applications.
BMW ConnectedDrive gets a large fluctuation in service requested depending on various factors like the time of the day, weather conditions and traffic incidents. The Red Hat Container Platform enables BMW Group to do the point scaling to adjust the peaks and troughs to deliver continuous service to the end customer. As an initial rollout, the Red Hat OpenShift Container platform has been implemented in the Datacenter in Germany which takes care of ConnectedDrive.
